A different sort of Freshers Week
Formula Student ‘Give it a Go’
As a new academic year rolls around, SHU Racing begins its annual recruitment drive. Ordinarily this would involve us being out on the campus at the societies and sports fairs, as well as visiting induction sessions. This year, we have instead made our introductions using a web cam.
Our society team planned a very successful give it a go event on Wednesday night. This gave the new team members a chance to ask a whole manner of questions about Formula Student, SHU Racing and the competition as well as the all-important question: Can I drive the car? The society also put on a fantastic motorsport themed quiz with the winner receiving a pair of OMP KS-3 Karting gloves.
We were really pleased to see around 30 people in attendance and more who still wish to be a part of the team. If you would like to be a part of SHU Racing, please contact us via email at info.shuracing@gmail.com or via our Facebook.
Sponsor Spotlight: Solidworks
SHU Racing has once again been provided with Solidworks licenses to use for the 2021 season provided by Dassault Systems. This is more vital than ever with the team working predominantly from home. Solidworks is the primary CAD software used within the university due to its user friendly interface and extensive list of packages including; 3D modelling, animation, 2D drawings and assembly as well as simulation tools such as simulation such as Finite Element Analysis, rendering and topology.
The provision of the full software package for home use will allow the engineers at SHU Racing to fully design, optimise and define components and assemblies away from our Lab at the university, whilst also further developing our knowledge of CAD
The team look forward to using Solidworks to help produce the 2021 car.
Gradcracker
This week both the ICE and EV Team Principals, Alice and Elijah, met with Georgia at Gradcracker to update our society page on their website. This is a really exciting website to be linked with as it is not only a great website to find placement and graduate opportunities, but also for employers to like our society and its members. We are looking forward to seeing who else may show an interest in SHU Racing over the coming months
