Let the Build Begin
First Week Back on Campus
Monday 8th March marked the teams first day back on campus since the start of the second lockdown. Since then, the team has been full throttle jumping straight into the manufacture of components required for the summer season and for future development projects.
This week has been spent making test pieces for safety certification such as the Impact Attenuator. Progress has also been made on carbon components for the innovative monocoque and carbon Anti-intrusion plate. Certification is also required for the IMechE to show how certain components will respond on impact. Therefore, test pieces have been produced ready for destructive testing to prove that our designs are safe to use.
Once the destructive testing has been completed, and the mechanical properties of the components are proven to meet the requirements of Formula Student, full production of the car can begin. With the testing complete, the team will know they are racing both a safe and legal car in 2021.
Schaeffler
SHU Racing are pleased to announce the return of Schaeffler as a sponsor for the 2021 season as our primary bearing supplier. Schaeffler are involved in a wide variety of industries from Motorsport to renewable energy and are known for their quality products.
As a company, Schaeffler has been involved with Formula E since its first season in 2014/15 and has seen electric racing as the future of motorsport. Their engineers were also part of the development of the electric powertrain that went on to win the 2016/17 season of Formula E. As we continue to develop our own electric vehicle, a sponsor also engaging with this type of motorsport is a great addition to our support network.
Schaeffler have been involved with Formula student events around the world for a number of years sponsoring both events and team. As such, the team are assured of the support they will receive to develop the best car they can. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Schaeffler this season.
